Wild Tacoma: Multi-Stop Nature Mania with Brenda

FREE for all ages and trip number 3 of 3 for Tahoma Audubon's summer field trip series

Experience wildlife across a wide range of environments with Brenda of the Slater Museum in this drop-in / drop-out style field trip!

This trip includes a morning bird-watching hike at Swan Creek, a tour of the Slater Museum of Natural History, an urban nature walk in the North End of Tacoma, and drinks at Peaks and Pints at the end of the day.

All ages are welcome for most of the stops, but no children under age 10 are allowed at the Slater Museum and no one under 21 is allowed at the bar at the end of the day. 

We'll provide binoculars if you'd like to borrow a pair.

Multi-Stop Meetup Points:

  • 9:30 am: University of Puget Sound (UPS) parking lot at Union at N 14th St (UPS campus map)
  • 12:30 pm: UPS Thompson Hall Courtyard
  • 1:30 pm: Slater Museum (2nd floor of Thompson Hall)
  • 2:30 pm: UPS parking lot at Union at N 14th St
  • 3:30 pm: Peaks and Pints (3816 N 26th St B, Tacoma, WA 98407)

Itinerary:

  • 9:30 am: Meet at UPS and carpool to Swan Creek
  • 10:00 am: Bird and hike around Swan Creek
  • 12:00 pm: Carpool back to UPS
  • 12:30 pm: Lunch in Thompson courtyard (participants may bring lunch or buy food at cafes and Student Union Building on campus)
  • 1:30 pm: Slater Museum tour
  • 2:30 pm: Urban nature walk from UPS to Proctor District
  • 3:30 pm: End urban nature walk at Peaks and Pints, grab drinks, compare morning hike with urban walk
  • 4:30 pm: Walk back to UPS campus

Stay for the whole experience, or just join us for the parts that are most appealing to you!

Maximum participants: 30 people

Please remember to bring:

  • Water
  • A sack lunch (unless you want to purchase one on campus)
  • Any hiking snacks you might like
